What is inferior palpebral?

The inferior palpebral is the lower eyelid, which covers the lower half of the eye. It is composed of connective tissue, muscle, and skin, and is responsible for protecting the eye by keeping foreign objects out of it. The inferior palpebral is thinner and more delicate than the upper eyelid, which is why the lower eyelid can show signs of aging earlier than the upper eyelid. The inferior palpebral also has important roles in tear production, drainage, and distribution on the surface of the eye through the punctum, canaliculi, lacrimal sac, and nasolacrimal duct. Abnormalities in the inferior palpebral can cause eye problems such as dry eye, entropion (inward turning of the eyelid), ectropion (outward turning of the eyelid), ptosis (drooping eyelid), and chalazion (a lump in the eyelid caused by inflammation of the oil glands).
